7th International Symposium on "Mobile Mapping Technology" was held from June 13 to 16, 2011 at the Sheraton Hotel, Cracow, Poland. It was organized by the Association of Polish Surveyors and Polish Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing with significant commitment of representatives of leading Polish technical universities in the field of photogrammetry: Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology and Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering, AGH University of Science and Technology, people from Main Board of Association of Polish Surveyors from Warsaw and Cracow and representatives from private companies – WPG, Esri, OPGK Kraków. Symposium was held under the auspices of international organizations such as: ISPRS, FIG, ION, IAG. Other institutions such as Polish Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography and Committee of Geodesy Polish Academy of Science also became the patron of this event.
About 150 participants from over 30 countries from around the world attended this Symposium.
During the first day of Symposium the tutorials were organized by the Science Committee, where experts from the Ohio State University, University of Calgary, University of Padova, University of Udine and the National Technical University of Athens presented six topics related to current problems of mobile mapping technology. At the end of this day, one of the sponsors - Gispro organized exhibition of its aerial MMT platform at the Pobiednik airport, what was very interesting for Symposium attendees.
On the second day of Symposium the exhibition was opened, where 14 firms, sponsoring the conference, presented their achievements and shared experiences in field of mobile mapping techniques with all Symposium participants. Two companies Esri and Esri Poland were main sponsors of the Symposium. Among other sponsors, such companies should be mentioned as, Apex (Poland), IX Blue (France), Leador (China), OPGK Krakow (Poland), Progea (Poland) with Terrasolid (Finland), WPG (Poland), Visimind (Sweden/Poland) and also Geodis (Czech Republic), Gispro (Poland), Riegl (Austria/Poland), Czerski (Poland) and Cyclomedia (Netherlands/Poland), who presented their terrestrial mobile platforms, during third day of Symposium. The Symposium presented high level of knowledge in matter of MMT, involving 41 presentations in eight thematic, oral sessions and 27 presentations in poster session. All papers had been already edited on the CD and distributed to all participants. In addition on agreement of the author, the paper after the positive peer-review, would be published (in English) in the 'Archives of Photogrammetry, Cartography and Remote Sensing' – annual publication of the Polish Societies of Geo-information, including Polish Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
It should be noted that whole Symposium was well-prepared. For over one year many people from Local Organizing Committee (LOC), headed by prof. Aleksandra Bujakiewicz from Warsaw University of Technology, and from International Science Committee (SC), headed by prof. Dorota Grejner-Brzezińska from Ohio State University, have prepared this Symposium in many aspects.
Most participants from previous six editions of MMT conferences taking place in various countries of the world, underlined enormity of Organizers’ work, and what is the most important, they highly assessed the level of sessions and exhibitions of MMT platform. It should be decline that such large number of professional platforms in one place has not been showed during previous editions of MMT Symposiums. While Symposium was being closed, organizers announced place of two next MMT Sympozium, in Taiwan – 2013 and in Australia – 2015.
